Happy Thanksgiving

Here I am on the computer, waiting for the turkey to cook. This is my first post in the CTLS 23 Things program. I can already see applications for the library. I've checked out Google, made myself a home page there. We already use Google Calendar and Analytics at the library to keep schedules and track usage on the library web site. I can see how having a Google home page full of all the things I am interested in can be a real time sink. I have personal home pages on both Google and Yahoo. They provide different and complementary info, but way too much of it.

I think that the easiest of the 7 1/2 habits for me is to begin with the end in mind. That is pretty much my mantra. But teaching and mentoring don't come easily. It's hard for me to get back to a beginners mind.

I can see applications for blogging. This could be a wonderful tool for our special events, keeping folks updated on library happenings and new additions to our collection. Not so much the personal stuff - but just the facts, ma'm. The entire staff could post to this blog on a rotating basis. But would we be just whistling in the wind? Sending our thoughts out into the void, never to be read by others?

Next week I'll add pictures from our recent remodeling of the library. As soon as I master Flickr I'll post the before and after pics. We are all very jazzed about our new look. We are counting the "WOW"s as patrons come in (we reopened this past Monday). We're at 327 and counting. Thanks to Kam & Suzan, Laurie, and Jennifer of CTLS for their help and vision.
